The original motivation of the project was to give a home to children who had lost their parents through the tsunami in December 2004. The time delays encountered meant that these children had found homes in other private or government homes or had been taken in by their relatives. The need for a facility such as the Children’s Palace still existed but the need existed in other children.
These children often lived on the streets and were subject to violence and exploitation. In most cases their mothers are prostitutes and the child was condemned to a future of drugs, alcohol and crime.
The project gives these children, from dangerous and abusive family situations, an environment to grow, learn and develop in an atmosphere of love and acceptance. At the Home every child is encouraged to learn and attends a local school or Montessori.
